During my tenure at Dar Al‑Handasah, I contributed to the public realm and landscape design of Aljada — Sharjah’s largest mixed‑use development, envisioned as a vibrant urban destination combining residential, commercial, cultural, and recreational spaces. The Central Hub, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, required landscape strategies that seamlessly integrated architecture, culture, and sustainability.

🌱 Vision & Scope

  • Create a dynamic urban core that serves as Sharjah’s new cultural and social destination.

  • Integrate green infrastructure to mitigate heat and enhance pedestrian comfort.

  • Develop inclusive public spaces for recreation, events, and community interaction.

  • Support ARADA’s vision of a sustainable, future‑ready city with climate‑responsive landscapes.

🏗️ Key Contributions

  • Public Realm Framework – Designed shaded pedestrian networks, plazas, and gathering spaces to encourage walkability and social interaction.

  • Landscape Integration with ZHA Architecture – Coordinated landscape elements with fluid architectural forms, ensuring harmony between built and natural environments.

  • Climate‑Responsive Planting – Applied native and adaptive species (Ghaf, Sidr, Date Palm, Bougainvillea) to reduce irrigation demand and strengthen ecological resilience.

  • Event & Recreation Spaces – Developed flexible outdoor areas for cultural events, performances, and leisure activities.

  • Sustainability Strategies – Embedded water‑efficient irrigation, shaded seating, and resilient hardscape materials to withstand Sharjah’s climate.

  • Community Identity – Balanced modern design with cultural references, ensuring the hub reflects Sharjah’s heritage while appealing to international audiences.

🌍 Impact

The Aljada Central Hub is envisioned as a benchmark for integrated urban living in Sharjah, offering shaded walkable streets, vibrant plazas, and ecologically resilient landscapes. It demonstrates how large‑scale development can combine architecture, landscape, and culture into a cohesive framework that enhances community well‑being and sustainability.
